Six national flags have flown over Texas during its colorful history. The first was Spain's banner, from 1519 to 1685. In 1685 the French explorer La Salle raised the French flag over a short-lived coastal colony. In 1691 Texas again came under the Spanish flag, which was replaced by the banner of Mexico in 1821. From 1836 to 1845 the Lone Star banner flew over the Republic of Texas. The Stars and Stripes became the official flag in 1845, but during the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, it was replaced by the Confederate flag.
The first European to visit what is now Texas was Alonso Alvarez de Pineda, who mapped the coast in 1519. Cabeza de Vaca, a Spanish noble, was the first to explore the area. Shipwrecked near what is now Galveston in 1528, he was captured by the Karankawa Indians and traveled with them for eight years before escaping. In 1541 Francisco Coronado crossed the Panhandle in search of gold. Later, parties of Spaniards camped in the wilderness, but they left no settlements.
The French explorer La Salle missed the mouth of the Mississippi River in 1685 and sailed into Matagorda Bay. He pushed inland and built Fort St. Louis, which two years later was wiped out by Native Americans already living in the area. Fear of French influence hurried the Spanish into extending missions into eastern Texas.
By 1800 some 25 missions and a number of presidios had been built in Texas. The missions had little success in converting the Native Americans to the alien Spanish culture and failed to attract settlers. A 1795 census found 69 families in San Antonio. The few additional families were mainly at what are now Goliad and Nacogdoches.
Approximately in 1200 AD on island Vadadli from the South America have come kariby. They were extremely aggressive, therefore to local residents, Arawaks, it was necessary to be on the lam. New owners have settled down near to the Bay of Indians. Here they did red-white ceramics. As the clay utensils of the same colouring were made by the expelled Arawaks, scientific have assumed, that both tribes - Arawaks and kariby - an essence one people.

The first poselentsy from Europe have appeared here only in thirty years after opening of island by Columbus. Absence of sources of fresh water and an attack of cannibals have made a life of Spaniards on this earth intolerable. Colonists have left on Ispanolu, present Haiti. So about Sacred Maria's island have forgotten for hundred years.

The first he was recollected by Englishmen who have declared the claims for Antigua and in three years have landed here colonists. In honour of this joyful event on the money received from monstrous operation of slaves, Sacred John's wooden church has been erected. But, probably, to the higher forces such way of consolidation of belief has not pleased: the temple repeatedly collapsed earthquakes and was destroyed by fires. In one perfect day which has come after the strongest hurricane, parishioners on a church place have found out a heap of logs. The authorities have decided to construct a new temple of a stone, and its internal walls have upholstered with the rests of the old. According to architect Fulera, elastic wood of a yellow pine should rescue a stone design from natural cataclysms. Calculation has appeared is correct. Wooden inside and stone outside the church costs without major repairs already two hundreds years. First evil tongues compared creation Fulera with pagan kapishchem over which two towered fallicheskie towers. They for some reason reminded some colonists indecent in appearance pepper pods. In due course to new architectural style have got used. And now this neobaroque temple consider as the most impressing building in all West Indies. To take pleasure in its kind karibam it was not possible … any more
